Key Advantages

Retractable safety mechanism for needlestick prevention: The blade automatically and permanently retracts after activation. Single-use self-destruct structure prevents reuse, cross-contamination and healthcare worker needlestick injuries, complying with OSHA and CLSI safety guidelines.

Minimally invasive & less painful: Surgical-grade stainless steel sweeping blade creates clean, smooth cuts without skin tearing. It reduces nerve stimulation, lowers infant pain response and speeds up wound healing with less bruising.

Graduated controlled penetration depth: Multiple depth options for micro-preemie, preemie, full-term newborn and toddler. Controlled depth avoids accidental injury to heel periosteum and meets clinical sampling standards.

One-hand ergonomic activation: Non-slip ABS housing for stable grip. Built-in alignment marker helps clinicians target the safe lateral heel area quickly, improving first-time sample success rate.

Sterile individual blister pack: Gamma irradiated sterile, single unit sealed packaging for convenient bedside use in delivery rooms and NICU.

Reliable sample quality, less hemolysis: Standardized incision enables natural blood flow without heavy squeezing. It reduces tissue fluid dilution and hemolysis to guarantee accurate lab test results.

Product Overview

Heel-Stick Blood Sampling Lancet is a single-use safety incision lancet specially designed for capillary blood collection from the heel of preterm infants, newborns and toddlers. It is widely used for neonatal metabolic screening, blood glucose test, bilirubin test, complete blood count and other point-of-care capillary blood sampling in obstetric wards, neonatal ICUs, pediatric departments and maternal-child health centers. Different from conventional finger stick lancets, this product adopts sweeping blade incision design to precisely control incision depth and width. It delivers sufficient blood volume with minimal tissue trauma, reduces hemolysis and tissue injury caused by excessive heel squeezing, and becomes the preferred blood collection consumable for neonatal screening laboratories.

Material Comparison

Blade: Medical surgical stainless steel (316L / 2Cr13). High hardness, sharp cutting edge, corrosion resistance and polished surface for smooth incision. Compared with carbon steel blade, stainless steel avoids rusting and offers superior biocompatibility with less skin irritation. Carbon steel is cheaper but prone to oxidation and unstable after sterilization, not recommended for medical blood sampling.

Housing: Medical grade ABS plastic, impact-resistant, non-toxic and non-leaching. High rigidity to stabilize retractable safety mechanism. PP plastic is softer and cheaper, commonly used in simple lancets but with weaker lock stability.

Blister package: Medical PET/PVC composite film, provides moisture and microbial barrier to maintain sterility.

Intended Use & Target Users

Intended Use: Collect capillary whole blood from heel for neonatal metabolic screening, blood glucose, bilirubin, blood routine and other laboratory diagnostic tests. Target Users: Micro-preemies, preterm infants, full-term newborns and infants under 1 year old. Application Settings: Maternity ward, neonatal ICU, pediatric ward, maternal and child health hospital, newborn screening center, mobile screening clinic. Not suitable for: Adult fingerstick, venipuncture or surgical skin incision.

Why Choose Our Heel-Stick Blood Sampling Lancet

Neonatal heel stick requires strict safety, pain control and stable sample quality. Traditional puncture lancets use thin needle pricks, which often cause hemolysis by heavy squeezing and carry risk of periosteum injury due to uncontrolled depth. Our heel lancet adopts sweeping incision technology for natural blood flow without forceful compression. Integrated self-retracting safety design protects medical staff. Color-coded sizes simplify selection and reduce clinical errors. The product holds CE and ISO13485 certification, supports OEM & ODM customization, ensures stable bulk supply for global neonatal screening programs with balanced clinical safety and cost performance.

FAQ

Q: Can heel-stick lancets replace regular finger lancets? A: Not recommended. Heel lancets use sweeping incision designed for thick neonatal heel skin. Finger lancets are needle-prick type for older children and adults. Using finger lancets on newborn heels may cause inadequate blood flow or skin laceration.

Q: Will the blade pop out again after use? A: No. The blade locks permanently retracted after activation. It is self-destructed and cannot be reused to prevent needlestick injury.

Q: What sterilization method is used? Can EO sterilization be available? A: Standard version is gamma irradiation. EO sterilization can be customized upon bulk order request.

Q: What do different colors mean? A: Color coding indicates penetration depth. Lavender for micro-preemie, orange for preemie, yellow for full-term newborn, blue for toddler for fast identification.

Q: Do I need to squeeze the baby’s heel hard to get blood? A: Natural blood flow is expected. Heavy squeezing is not advised. Excessive pressure introduces tissue fluid and causes hemolysis, affecting lab results.

Q: What are storage requirements? A: Store in dry, shaded and room-temperature environment. Keep away from high temperature and humidity. Unopened shelf life is 5 years.

Q: Can you provide OEM service with custom logo and packaging? A: Yes. Custom logo, reference number and multi-language IFU are available.

Q: Can this lancet be used for heel sampling on children older than 1 year? A: Skin keratin thickens after 1 year old. Fingerstick is clinically preferred. Our Toddler model may be used for heel sampling after clinical assessment.
