1. Key Advantages

High-barrier film, odor-proof and leak-free: The pouch body uses a co-extruded multi-layer (3+ layers) PE high-barrier film, or EVA/TPE films, at a thickness of 12 strands (~0.12mm) — soft, skin-friendly, low rustle noise and excellent odor containment.

Effective gas release & deodorizing: An optional activated carbon filter vents gas to prevent ballooning while neutralizing odor effectively.

Multi-layer heat-sealed edges, no leakage: Precision heat-sealing produces neat, secure edges that resist leakage and protect the peristomal skin.

Full range of options: One/two-piece, drainable/closed, colostomy/urostomy, transparent/non-transparent, with/without carbon filter — matching every patient's needs.

2. Product Overview

An ostomy pouch (also known as a colostomy bag, stoma bag, or ostomy bag) is an essential care product for patients who have undergone ostomy surgery. It collects stool or urine discharged through an artificial opening (stoma) created in the abdominal wall. Each pouch consists of two parts: a baseplate (skin barrier) that adheres to the abdomen, and a pouch body that stores output. By structure, ostomy pouches come in one-piece and two-piece styles; by function, they are divided into colostomy pouches (for stool) and urostomy pouches (for urine); and by emptying method, they are classified as drainable pouches and closed-end pouches. Our products serve post-operative patients with colorectal cancer, rectal cancer and urinary system conditions, and are widely used in hospitals, nursing homes, home care and e-commerce retail channels.

4. Material Comparison

Material Features Best for
PE high-barrier film (co-extruded) Best odor barrier, moderate cost, high softness Standard colostomy & urostomy pouches
EVA film Good elasticity, soft fit, low-temperature resistance Pouches needing higher flexibility
TPE film Softest touch, low noise, skin-friendly Premium comfort pouches

Carbon filter differences: Closed-end colostomy pouches are fully sealed, so a carbon filter is mandatory to prevent ballooning; urostomy pouches never carry a filter (liquid output quickly ruins it) and must include an anti-reflux valve; drainable pouches may carry a filter or use a budget no-filter version, especially for high-output ileostomy patients with watery stool.

Closed-end pouch: formed stool, 1–2 changes daily, single-use, disposable.

Drainable pouch: semi-formed or liquid stool, frequent emptying, washable, used with a pouch clip.

One-piece pouch: post-operative early stage, swollen stoma, or limited manual dexterity — simple to apply.

Two-piece pouch: frequent stoma care, reusable pouch, adjustable pouch direction.

Transparent pouch: early post-op and elderly patients for easy inspection; non-transparent: reduces visual stimulation and protects privacy.

7. FAQ

1. One-piece or two-piece? One-piece is simpler, lighter and cheaper — ideal for early post-op and edema. Two-piece allows pouch replacement and direction change but costs more; baseplate changes every 3–5 days (max 7 days).

2. Is there a closed urostomy pouch? No. Urine output is continuous and large (1500–2000 ml/day); a closed bag fills and bursts within 1–2 hours, and lying flat can cause urine reflux leading to pyelonephritis. Urostomy pouches must be drainable with an anti-reflux valve.

3. Do all pouches have activated carbon? No. Urostomy pouches have none; closed colostomy pouches must have one; drainable pouches may go without (budget/economy), best for watery, high-output ileostomy patients whose thin stool would clog the filter.

4. How often to change the baseplate? Two-piece baseplates: every 3–5 days, max 7 days, change immediately on any leakage; pouch size must match the flange.

5. Drainable or closed? Formed stool with ≤1 change/day → closed. Semi-formed/liquid stool needing frequent emptying → drainable (washable, with clip).

6. What baseplate sizes are available? Adult 15–65 mm, infant 0–23 mm, pediatric 10–35 mm, large 80–90 mm, max 105 mm.

7. Does the stoma grow or shrink? After about 4 years the stoma stabilizes at a fixed size; measure regularly and select the matching baseplate.

8. What if the stoma is flush or recessed? Use a convex ostomy pouch together with a belt to ensure a secure, leak-free fit.
